AntiVir Personal is a Personal Edition Premium security protection from Viruses, Worms, and Trojans. Basically it is like a nasty little shot geared towards those ugly germs attacking your computer.

Pros

There are a few pros to the AntiVir Personal one of course is the fact that it is free, while another Pro is the actual file size being only a little over 7MB means you wont have to spend all day downloading it. Some of the great features also give it another Pro rating such as Adware and Spyware detection and protection, updating itself so you don’t have to worry about it. An integrated POP3 scanner for safer web playing, a download server, and a user-friendly graphic interface, the ability to scan of course and did I mention it’s free? All of this means that what ever it finds the program will take care of it.

Cons

Of course you will find cons to everything these days, from what shoes to wear to which program to use. And to be fair I am including the cons to this program as well. Some have complained that the update process was very slow even using dialup, and another mentioned that the program installed a Trojan in their computer. All though to be fair on this part many anti-virus programs detect a Trojan or Virus in other programs even the creators of the programs tell you that one may detect the other as a threat. While others mentioned that it found a Trojan and then couldn’t get rid of it, and I hate to say it but this is sometimes the case and no matter what program you use hackers and virus creators are always looking for the next one that no body can get rid of. This is why you download only from a place you trust.

Summary

When looking for a free anti-virus program you have to look at what you are getting and what you are paying for. Not all of the free programs do the same thing and not all are created equal. If you bought your computer new then you should have gotten restore disk and if not then buy some. There will always be something bigger and more dangerous to your computer out there so just be careful. For an over all rating of the AntiVir Personal I have to give it a 7.5 the ease of use is a little different than the other guys but sit does what it says it will do.
